A Romantic Fairy

One of my  very  earliest introductions to the world of Faerie were the Flower Fairy poems and artwork by Cicely Mary Barker.
My mother had the entire 'Flower Fairies' collection and would read them to me each evening before bedtime.  Those lovely poems and the enchanting artwork accompanying them worked their magic upon me, and I find that my designs are still greatly influenced by the image of the Romantic Victorian Fairy.

This gorgeous Blue Fairy costume is definitely one of those designs. Beautiful taffeta and chiffon skirt has a tulle underskirt and is embellished with silk flowers and leaves. More silk flowers adorn the top and matching wand, wings and headdress.
(the wand has a little birdie sitting on top too! :) Women's size 8-10
Bust: 32"-38" (due to the stretchiness)
Waist: up to 30"
Hips: up to 40"

Sister of The Moon—Stevie Nicks-inspired fairy wings

"Intense silence
As she walked in the room
Her black robes trailing
Sister of the moon
And a black widow spider makes
More sound than she
And black moons in those eyes of hers
Made more sense to me..."
—"Sister Of The Moon" by Stevie Nicks

After posting my fairy wing tutorial yesterday, I made a new set of wings myself and thought I'd share them with all of you here—
I call them my 'Sister of The Moon' fairy wings...inspired by one of my very favorite Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac tunes  ( that I was listening to while I worked :)

Created from vintage black chiffon with a gold rose print, and accentuated with curly willow, dried roses, feathers, florals and dramatic trailing lace fringe (and of course we can't forget the crow :)

And now for your listening (and watching :) pleasure...
